Jianguo (Jack) Liu Elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences

Jianguo (Jack) Liu is a newly elected member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. He is the Rachel Carson Chair in Sustainability and University Distinguished Professor of Fisheries and Wildlife at Michigan State University.

Dr. Liu was one of the 213 new members, among which 6 are Chinese professors. He bridges natural and social science through integrating multiple disciplines to address complex human-environmental challenges. For example, he connects divorce and environmental sustainability, two seemingly unconnected fields to research in global sustainability.

He has 269 publications in total with his colleagues and students, and he is the first author among 90% of which. His publications cover a variety of topics related to global sustainability, from China’s environmental issues and strategy, to international education and communication approaches to conserve wildlife.

Dr. Liu has also been widely covered by prestigious international news and media, including New York Times, BBC, Los Angeles Times, CCTV, NBC, AAAS Member Central, MotherBoard, and many more.
