One Health

One Health is a facet of the Asia Hub initiative that focuses on a comprehensive approach to deal with health issues that humans, animals, and the environment face today.

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) takes a holistic perspective on the health of humans and the environment, it has been in practice for more than 2000 years in China. Its influence has reached many Asian countries. Modern TCM has kept both TCM elements and integrated western medicine in order to reach maximum health benefits.

At MSU, the Institute of International Health (IIH) has led several international conferences and forums on One Health which brought medical professional, veterinarian, biomedical, environmental and social scientists together to discuss holistic and integrated approaches to human, animal and environment health issues that we are facing today.

In June 2016, IIH, the College of Osteopathic Medicine (COM) and Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine (SHUTCM) jointly hosted “the One Health and Traditional Chinese Medicine Conference” in Shanghai. COM and SHUTCM signed an MOU to further collaborate on research and education between the two universities. As an integrated part of the Asia Hub initiative, the One Health Initiative between MSU and SHUTCM will further commit to MSU’s Global Grant mission to bring the best health practices, research and education to both China, the United States, Asia and beyond.
