2006 Development Grant

       By March 15, 2006, the Office of China Programs had received 17 proposals which reflected the high enthusiasm and interests of our faculty in the grant. The applicants were from many colleges and departments. To make a fair evaluation and judgment of each application, we formed a four-member committee to review each proposal.  The proposals contained many great ideas and were also very competitive.

       After careful review, the committee selected and awarded five proposals on April 10, 2006. The name of the grantee, the department and topics of the proposed activities are as follows:

· Yong-Hui Zheng, Ph.D. and Walter Esselman Ph.D., Department of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics: HIV research collaboration with Jilin University, China

· R. Sekhar Chivukula Ph.D. and Elizabeth Simmons Ph.D., Physics and Astronomy Department: Nuclear and particle physics research collaboration with Tsinghua University

· Dr. Kirk Dolan, Dr. Ajit Srivastava and Dr. Renfu Lu, Department of Biosystems and Agricultural Engineering: Joint education programs and study abroad program with Zhejiang University and Southern Yangtze University.

· Teresa Wehrwein, CNAA, RN, Ph.D., College of Nursing: Nurse training program in China

· Dr. Hui Li, Department of Crop and Soil Sciences: Environmental Sciences and Policy Programs with Nanjing University and Nanjing Soil Research Institute of Chinese Academy of Sciences.
