19th CPC Congress report: giving priority to education

At the 19th National Congress of China’s Communist Party, President Xi Jinping declared that the CPC should give priority to developing education, and that strengthening education is fundamental to the Chinese pursuit of national rejuvenation.

On October 182017, President Xi Jinping delivered his report, Secure a Decisive Victory in Building a Moderately Prosperous Society in All Respects and Strive for the Great Success of Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, at the start of the 19th National Congress. He was quoted saying, “strengthening education is fundamental to out pursuit of national rejuvenation,” and that the CCP will do an educational reform, speed up modernization of education, and develop education that people are satisfied with.

Chinese Minister of Education, Chen Baosheng, reviewed achievements in the field of education over the past five years. During a press conference on October 22, 2017, he stated that education was developing fast in China’s central, western and rural regions, and China’s government promoted education equity. Education funding increased from 200 million RMB to over 300 million RMB, approaching to 400 million RMB. Chen was quoted saying, “I hope China will play a leading role in education worldwide, which means the standards of education in China will become the standards of the world." He also expressed his hope that China will attract more overseas students to study in China.
